Speech by representative of Vietnnam
March 13, 2004

BY DR. BUI NOAN NE/Chairman of Ha Noi Printing Association

Mr.Tan Soo Huat-Chairman of Malaysia Printers Association,
Ladies and Gentleman

I am very happy to be here today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the FAGAT conference. On behalf of Ha Noi Printing Association and all the Vietnamese printers, I would like to thank FAGAT's members' for their concerns and interests given to the printing industry of Vietnam.

At this conference, I am going to give you here an overview picture about the printing industry of Vietnam for the time being and its development tendency in the future.

Vietnam is a politically stable country with the population of 80 million people. Last year, 2003, Vietnam had the growth rate of 7.5%. This is a potential market for printing industry.

There are more than 500 enterprises/companies employing approximately 40,000 labors. Almost big printing enterprises and companies are located in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. Small and medium sized ones are scattered all over the country. State-owned companies have greater scale and production output in the printing industry in Vietnam.

The printing industry of Vietnam is on its development process and step by step keeping up with the advanced technologies. The choosing printing method is considered seriously by investors today in order to effect their investments with view to head up with and satisfy the market's demands.

It's estimated that the printing industry of Vietnam will develop at rate of approximate 10% year within the next 10 years. This is due to the fast requirements for printing quantity and quality in the domestic market. Moreover, exports of printed products can increase as Vietnam's low labor cost and the stable market are advantages for export to the international market.

There will be more joint ventures and cooperation in the field of training, production of printing consumables. Choosing printing technology in Vietnam is always a question of investors. The aims of printing companies are to increase the printing quality, reduce production costs, and shorten production time. Making quick or slow steps depends on each enterprise. The enterprises which already have advantages in the market should approach quickly to the world's advanced technology. The enterprises which are having difficulties can choose a suitable investment method in order to stabilize and develop at the same time. The Vietnamese government always encourages Vietnamese printing enterprises to broaden their international relation and cooperation with other printing associations. This FAGAT conference is a bridge between the Vietnam's printing industry and printing industries of the region. This is an opportunity for us to learn experience from all of you here today and wishing to be FAGAT family's members.

Thank you very much your attention
